Seeking Marketing Strategy Volunteer for Fall Fundraiser Event

Position Overview: The Chicago Playback Theatre Ensemble (CPTE) is seeking a Marketing Strategy Volunteer to help our team promote our budding theatre nonprofit’s upcoming fall fundraiser event. This volunteer role will help us effectively promote our fundraiser and reach a wider audience, ensuring its success. Our fundraiser will raise money to help pay our artists and admin for their work in our 2024-25 season.

Theatre Overview: Through community collaborations with Chicago organizations, small businesses, and nonprofits since 2019, CPTE uses Playback Theatre to bring the stories of our audience’s personal experiences to life onstage through interactive improvisational theatre and music. We are a 501c3 nonprofit theatre that aims to facilitate community-building, dialogue, broadening of perspectives, and healing by celebrating, validating, and honoring the truths of the communities we engage with.

We believe that sharing stories together builds community, strengthens empathy, and ignites dialogue, and CPTE is the only ensemble in Chicago currently using the art form of Playback Theatre in our work. CPTE produces curated performances and educational workshops with various community partners that are free or affordable to the community. CPTE’s programing particularly focuses on serving on LGBTQIA+ communities, underserved youth, and mental health advocacy for disparate communities. Recent partnerships include:

  • An afterschool middle school workshop residency at Jamieson Elementary School’s Genders & Sexualities Alliance Club exploring stories about queerness and allyship
  • An 8 week workshop residency with high schoolers at the Woodlawn Restorative Justice Hub focused on active listening skills and tools for identifying, expressing, and processing complex emotions
  • A free workshop series in collaboration with a Mental Health First Aid Instructor (sponsored by Rincon Family Services) exploring how many of the skills that Playback Theatre actors use to interpret real people’s stories can apply to mental health related skills such as learning how to be a supportive listener for others, followed by a free performance exploring stories about mental health
