Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of Directors of the Chicago Playback Theatre Ensemble (CPTE). We are thrilled at the prospect of your potential contribution to our mission and the unique role you could play in our continuing story. Since our founding in 2019 by Allison Sokolowski, CPTE has been dedicated to using the transformative power of Playback Theatre to bring to life the personal experiences of our audience through interactive improvisational theatre, enriched by movement and music. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we strive to facilitate community-building, dialogue, broadening of perspectives, and healing by celebrating, validating, and honoring the truths of the communities we engage with.

Our history is rooted in the profound impact that Playback Theatre can have on individuals and communities. From our inaugural season featuring thematic performances and partnerships with local organizations to adapting our approach during the COVID-19 pandemic for virtual engagements, CPTE has consistently leveraged the power of Playback for social change and healing. Post-pandemic, our initiatives have expanded to include impactful youth workshops and collaborations that utilize Playback Theatre to improve mental health outcomes and foster community among Chicago’s youth.

The role of our Board of Directors is pivotal in steering these efforts. As an inaugural board member, you will provide crucial strategic oversight, help secure necessary resources, and ensure the sustainability of our innovative programs. Your expertise, passion, and commitment are vital as we aim to deepen our impact and extend our reach across diverse communities.

Benefits of Board Membership

    • Community Impact: Support initiatives that foster healing and community-building.

The Board of Directors at CPTE is a working board. This means that in addition to a financial commitment, board members typically attend monthly board meetings, serve on at least one committee, and participate in special events or performances. The expected time commitment can vary but generally involves several hours per month.

See this document for more information about serving on the CPTE Board, or email us at chicagoplaybacktheatre@gmail.com with any questions! Applications for serving on the board for the 2024-2025 season are due October 18th.  Submit your application here: https://forms.gle/LMzmbBMnrNTkJcaz5

We look forward to discussing how your unique skills and perspectives can help shape the future of CPTE. Thank you once again for considering this significant role. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities throughout Chicagoland.
